Breaking the Myth of Work-life Balance

Working has now been an essential part that has integrated in our lives. Having a good career and being able to afford an independent lifestyle are some of the biggest reasons why people work relentlessly. However, are we living to work or working to live? Is work-life balance just a hard-to-get myth that nobody can actually achieve?
Find out your answer below.

1. Work-life balance does exist
Yes. You didn't get it wrong. Work-life balance does happen and people do feel joy in work and life. There is a fine line between your career and personal life, which means no last minute date plan cancelled for a client meeting or sacrificing your social life for work.

2. Breaking down the myth
How to achieve the ultimate work-life balance that seems to be too hard to get? Follow these simple tricks:
- Focus: try to finish the work as soon as you get it. Try to stay focus as much as possible and prevent yourself from getting distracted by outside forces. Sometimes a task which takes only 1 hour to do may end up consuming your entire morning, which can be used to do so many other things as well.

- Time management: set priorities and short-term goals. Decide which tasks to be finished first and be determined enough to finish them in a given specific timeline. Rewards and punishments applied. Create plans and check-lists to keep track of what you need to do, spread them out throughout a period of time to avoid last-minute deadline rush.

- Self-care: never miss a good night sleep unless it is a really important event. It's way better that you have a good sleep and start fresh and full of energy rather than working all night long to wake up to low-productivity that you have to make up for at night. It's basically a vicious cycle.
More than that, eat good and nutritious food. Never starve yourself. Take some extra supplements and drink plenty of water. Try to spend at least 15 to 30 minutes to exercise: walking around, jumping rope or simply just body stretching. The point is to stay healthy so that you can work and enjoy life, not to overwork and get sick. Remember: healthy body + happy mind = productivity.

- Ask for help. Don't be afraid to ask for help - in both your workplace and in life. Admit your constraints and ask people to help. Don't throw everything on your shoulder and expect you'll get through alone. Things never work that way. Seek for advice and help from your colleagues, be ready to raise your voice, and be true to your capacity. Communicate with your partner about your hard day at work and you need some time for yourself. After all, you don't have to prove anything to anyone, except yourself.
